About The Project:
John Hartenfeld disappeared in Taos, New Mexico, in the summer of 1996. The case was handled by both local law enforcement and private investigators. Conclusions were blurry after discovering his vehicle hidden on rural land. DNA samples went untested, and although no suspects were held accountable, statements summarized the evidence pointed to foul play. Thirty years later, John’s son does his best to piece together what happened, with help from his friends.
“My Little Cold Case” is a project that reflects the importance of healing through both play and grief. Our goal is to create a heartfelt piece of screenwork that makes audiences laugh and cry—just as we have during our time on set. We’re striving to craft something more than a documentary, pushing the boundaries of the cold case genre. Our budget models demonstrate both small- and large-scale possibilities for bringing this vision to life. With your support, we can create something truly special.
The Mystery of John
John Hartenfeld disappeared in the foothills of Taos, NM during a fly fishing trip in 1996. Police and private investigators determined someone killed him. No suspects were put on trial and a final conclusion simply stated that all evidence points to foul play. DNA samples went untested and remain untested. Was his case handled fairly? Was it all an accident?
